Many events happened this past year, many sad, a few good. One of the good thing that happend was the birth of Kasen. He is now close to 6 month old, and growing fast. His little hand and feet are just so fun to look at and play with. Anyway, long time no update, so here are some pics of Kasen and Jensen.

Jensen just turned 4 years old. He has been wanting to see the Golden Gate Bridge for a while. So I took him there for his birthday.

Our hotel is called Radegast (伯豪瑞廷) . It opened just before the Olympics, so it’s basically brand new. So far so good, all the staff are very friendly and the facilities are first rate. Some notable feature in the roomes are LCD TVs, one in the room as usual, but what’s unusual was that there is a 2nd one in the bath room. Very interesting. Another cool feature is the motorized blind control. Jensen got a kick out of that. The location of the hotel is also great, in the Central Business District, just east of the new CCTV station, and not to far to some good clean restaurants.

After a long flight, we finally touched down in the new Beijing airport. It’s been six years since I have visited Beijing. The very modern looking airport is just a prelude of what’s coming, that in the last few years, there has been a huge transformation of Beijing landscape in the making. The most the notable one, of course, is the new Olympic Villiage. In a word, it’s simply awsome, even more so in person than on TV.

In just a few days, we have already visited many places in Beijing. Jensen does not understand the significance of any of these places, but he seem to enjoy himself none the less. Nothing catches his attention better than the busy taxis and big buses.

Some of the places Jensen visited:

Qian3 Men2

Tian1 An1 Men2 square

It’s the annual cherry picking season again here in the Bay Area. The season is very short, lasting only one to two weeks at end of May. Many small cherry farms in Brentwood opens up for thousands of people. We have been going the Freitas farm for serveral years. Because their cherry is very flavorful and very large. The trees are loaded with cherries. Even little Jensen manage to pick a few. Definitely worth the 75 minutes of driving despite the high gas price.

We took a two week trip to Malaysia in December. It’s Jensen’s longest trip yet. It took total of 25 hours from San Francisco to Penang, Malaysia.

Penang Malaysia is definitely feeling very different from the Bay Area. The weather is very hot, even in December, something that take a little while to get use to. The area of Malaysia reminds a lot of small cities in Southern China. A lots of small shops, most with Chinese signs. First story of the building is used as a small shops, restaurants. Second story is used for mostly private residence. The street is very narrow and filled with small cars and mopeds.

Of course it’s not a complete vacation without trying the local food. The specialty in these region is the Hakka food. Most of the restaurants in the area are outdoors. Price is cheap and food are tasty. Being next to the ocean, there is a lot of sea food choices.

Jensen had a lot of fun. So much so he didn’t want to come home. Once home, he cries every morning when he goes to school.
